The Historic Trippenhuis

SAfJR 2026 will take place in the Trippenhuis, a historic building in the heart of Amsterdam. Together with the adjacent canal-side mansions, the Trippenhuis forms the Trippenhuis complex: the centre of science, scholarship, and the arts in the Netherlands.

Located on the Kloveniersburgwal canal, just steps from Nieuwmarkt, the venue offers a quiet and atmospheric setting within walking distance of many of Amsterdam’s landmarks. Built in the 1660s for the Trip family, who were prominent in the arms trade during the Dutch Golden Age, the building’s classical façade and spacious interiors reflect its 17th-century origins, making it a distinctive location for academic events.

Since 1812, the Trippenhuis has been home to the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). The Academy is an independent organisation that advises the Dutch government on science policy and supports research across disciplines, playing a central role in the Dutch academic landscape.

The surrounding neighbourhood is one of the oldest parts of Amsterdam. Here, you’ll find the Waag, the Zuiderkerk, and a variety of cafés and courtyards. This location will offer a pleasant and inspiring backdrop for the SAfJR 2026 meeting.
